Asia Week in the Junior School
Asia Week has brought a vibrant celebration of culture, creativity and curiosity to the Junior School. Across the week, each year level has explored a different Asian country, immersing themselves in rich learning experiences across a variety of curriculum areas. From literacy rotations and multimedia presentations to storytelling and creative writing inspired by Asian literature, students have deepened their understanding and appreciation of the diverse cultures of Asia.
Each class has also reinforced their learning through a unique artwork inspired by their focus country. Our Reception students explored Japan and created stunning cherry blossom artworks bursting with colour. Year 1 travelled to India through the intricate designs of beautiful mandalas, while Year 2 discovered Sri Lanka and carefully sketched traditional temples.
Year 3 and Year 4 students investigated Indonesia, creating vibrant batik artworks and expressive Indonesian-inspired masks. Year 5 students explored China through the art of Chinese calligraphy and designed their own Ming Dynasty-inspired vases. Year 6 students focused on South Korea, producing informative posters and detailed drawings of Korean pagodas.
The event culminated in a shared Vietnamese lunch of fried rice and spring rolls, kindly donated by Mr Binh and Mrs Lan who own LB Vietnamese Takeaway restaurant in 1A James St, Salisbury. We sincerely thank them for their generosity, along with the Mission Prefects and many staff who helped with organising and serving the food.
Asia Week has been a wonderful opportunity for students to celebrate diversity, build cultural understanding and express their learning creatively across the curriculum.
