Facilities

Solid foundations built for brighter learning.

When you wander the grounds of St Dominic’s Priory College, you will get a strong sense of the history, tradition and values that shape how we educate girls.

The story of the Dominican Sisters who founded our college is reflected in our Chapel – a beautiful heritage building first built in the late 1800s. The St Mary’s and St Edmunds Cloisters have a similarly rich history, with the St Mary’s wing hosting the delivery of our performing arts program.

The Adams Mayo Library supports our Little Doms (Transition) through to Year 12 students in Inquiry Learning and Information Literacy, while fostering an appreciation of good books and reading.

Our classrooms have been enhanced with the latest digital technologies, while traditional Science and Technology Labs are ideal spaces for girls to expand their knowledge with innovative equipment. Our art studios have been designed especially for flexible, creative learning, while the Year 12 Centre gives senior girls a stimulating space to study independently for their SACE courses and examinations.

The College Hall dates back to the 1900s and continues to provide a space for our rich Arts program, equipped with sound room, orchestra pit and a stage for students to shine in plays and musicals.

Master Plan

The St Dominic's Priory College Master Plan is well underway with new builds and upgrades seeking to retain the character and historical architecture of the college, whilst meeting educational outcomes now and into the future.

  • Stage 1 of the Master Plan was completed in 2019 with the opening of a new Year 12 Centre, a learning space designed to support our already strong academic culture of excellence in learning. The Sr Jillian Havey Centre for Senior Students is located across the road at 74 Hill Street. The philosophy that drove this build was to provide state of the art learning facilities that allow inquiry and choice in learning styles. Every girl learns in her own unique way and by Year 12, autonomy and ownership are driving forces for success in learning beyond school.

  • The College boasts a long and proud history, reflected not only in its people, but also in its walls. The College Chapel, recognised for its historical significance with a State Heritage Listing, sits alongside buildings and grounds erected and developed in many stages of the history of the college. The Chapel underwent significant repairs in 2020, primarily reinstating the intricate heritage stained glass windows to their original condition.

  • Stage 2 of the Master Plan was completed in May 2023. This stage saw the construction of a dynamic middle school precinct, with a complete rebuild of the Adams Mayo building on the western side of the college campus. The project encompassed the creation of six learning studios, a brand new Transition to Year 12 Library, research and breakout learning spaces, underground maintenance and sports storage, as well as light, airy and environmentally friendly outdoor, play and learning areas.

Simultaneously, an upgrade and refurbishment of our St Mary’s heritage building was completed in January 2023. This included; bathrooms, offices and performing arts areas (Drama and Music). This stage of the build also features a new roof top terrace with lift access to provide a link to the upper floor of the Adams Mayo Building, connecting this area to the existing building fabrics. These upgrades improve disability access throughout the college and between buildings.

  • Following the opening of the Adams Mayo Library, the former library building was transformed into the Conway Space, a STEM Hub that expands the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics footprint on our campus. The space provides access to 3D printing, aquaponics and virtual reality learning. It also includes dedicated textile and design areas, along with podcasting and gaming studios. Each area has been designed to support the way girls engage with learning.

Across the Junior School, classrooms were refurbished to create updated learning spaces that support collaboration, creativity and contemporary teaching practices.

  • The next stage of the College Master Plan is the upgrade of our Science laboratories. Building on the development of the Conway Space STEM Hub, this project will create modern laboratories designed for practical investigation, experimentation and scientific inquiry. The upgraded facilities will strengthen STEM learning across the College and provide students with spaces that support curiosity, discovery and deeper engagement with science.

Beyond the Classroom

The College Gymnasium is our key indoor hub for school sport, with mezzanine seating ideal for parents cheering on their daughters during Saturday morning competitions. Outside, a sports field and two courts offer even more active space. Time spent socialising and connecting with nature is an essential part of the learning and growing experience at St Dominic’s Priory College, with a playground, nature play space and junior primary courtyard and cubby house to help foster those connections.

Community Connections

With community so integral to the Dominican beliefs, our girls are in a great position to learn beyond our campus, with the Adelaide Aquatic Centre and North Adelaide Parklands on our doorstep and the city’s extensive arts and cultural offerings within easy reach.
