First Week of Reception

Feb 06 2026
Written by Savannah Gargiulo & Cathy Haddad

While the weather has turned up the heat, it has been our learning, play and sense of belonging that have been on fire as we began the 2026 school year.

We started the year feeling brave and ready, with a sprinkle of Ready Confetti tucked under our pillows the night before school began. Our Little Doms students welcomed our new friends, forming two Reception classes. The College rolled out the red carpet for our littlest members as they stepped through the gates, ready to shine.

Our week has focused on building strong foundations for learning. We have been learning how to wash our hands, pack our bags, listen with our whole body, and stay safe at school. These important routines help set our students up to become confident, capable learners.

School Safe, Home Safe

In the classrooms, we have been exploring prayer and learning why we pray, practising how to write our names, and following tasks with more than one step. We have enjoyed listening to stories, sharing conversations, and getting to know our new friends.

Our students have demonstrated wonderful qualities such as bravery and resilience as they start school, kindness towards others, persistence when learning feels challenging, and respect for our school environment.

We were also delighted to meet our class pets, Frankie and Phoebe, who will be joining us on our 2026 adventure both in and out of school. We also had the pleasure of meeting our buddies, and are loving learning from our St Dominic role models, who will play a role in supporting, guiding and inspiring us to walk in the footsteps of St Dominic.
