St Dominic’s Priory College is thrilled to launch a new uniform for the 2025 academic year. In place of seasonal Summer and Winter requirements, the uniform will now feature a versatile selection of interchangeable pieces, designed for year-round wear.
Throughout our 140-year history, the College uniform has remained loyal to the colours of French navy, white, and grey. In 2021, we embarked on a journey to collaborate with our community, seeking feedback on what is valued in the current uniform. We collated this feedback, mapped trends, and visited the archives to learn about the evolution of our uniform over time.
1920s: Students dressed in clothes sourced privately by families, with just a school crest pinned to the hatband and St Dominic’s tie-pin, to identify as a St Dominic’s student.
1930s: The same items were now worn by all the students. The regulation winter tunic was converted into the winter skirt during the 1970s.
1950s: The first summer uniform was introduced, and was French navy with a check pattern around the collars and cuffs. The beret was also introduced in this decade.
1970s: The grey summer dress was introduced following a shortage of blue uniform fabric.
Drawing on this information, designs were produced and further feedback was sought to refine them. Sample uniforms were then created and presented to the College Board, students, staff, and our Parents & Friends for input. After incorporating minor edits, we are now ready to unveil the new College Uniform Suite that will be in place from 2025.
In partnership with Noone and Campus School & College Wear, we are delighted with the final design. To view sample uniforms please stop by the College Reception during Term 4, or visit the uniform shop in nearby Welland, from early December.
