We understand the importance of nurturing the different learning styles of our diverse community of students, offering the support they need to get the most out of their time at the college.
What starts in the classroom with differentiated teaching strategies, extends to a number of additional Learning Support and extension programs anchored by our Centre 4 Learning (C4L).
Enriching Studies
The C4L is open a few times a week over lunchtime. It’s a space for students to unwind, socialise and access support resources for their studies. Girls can engage in problem-solving strategies to strengthen their Maths and English capabilities, as well as additional language opportunities and specific intervention programs (such as MultiLit) that will help them navigate subjects they may find challenging.
Other Learning Support Opportunities
For students who need some more structured support throughout their studies, we offer:
- in-class support
- small group support
- after school/lunchtime tutoring
- 1:1 support
Each strategy is tailored to the individual student, working to their strengths and preferred learning styles.
For those with diagnosed learning difficulties, disabilities or social/emotional difficulties, we’ll create a Personal Plan for Learning (PPL) to ensure students are getting everything they need to thrive.
Families and classroom teachers are heavily involved in shaping these programs, as are the students themselves. This way we can ensure regular monitoring, and make changes as required to set our students up for success.
Mapping Futures
Together with our Director of Teaching & Learning, and the Careers and VET Coordinator, our Adaptive Education Secondary Key Teacher is a crucial member of the St Dominic’s Priory College teaching staff, providing extra support and advice regarding subject selections, Vocational Education & Training (VET) and other Pathway or Futures Programs. Support is provided to our students and their families as they begin to map their futures at St Dominic’s and beyond.
